VIOLETTE
French period drama by director Martin Provost (Seraphine) about feminist writer Violette Leduc and her mentor/object of desire, Simone de Beauvoir
Opens June 27, 2014 in San Francisco
The sensual, beautifully photographed period drama VIOLETTE is the second biographical feature about a French female artist from writer/director Martin Provost (Séraphine). Violette Leduc (Emmanuelle Devos, Read My Lips, Kings & Queen), born out of wedlock at the beginning of the 20th century, encountered Simone de Beauvoir (Sandrine Kiberlain, Mademoiselle Chambon) in the post-WWII years in St-Germain-des-Prés. An intense relationship began between the two women, which would last their whole lives, a relationship based on the quest for freedom through writing, for Violette, and, for Simone, on the conviction that she held the fate of an extraordinary writer in her hands. Official SelectionToronto International Film Festival.
Adopt Films presents VIOLETTE, opening June 27, 2014 at Landmark's Embarcadero Center Cinema in San Francisco, and Landmark's Albany Twin in Albany.
