On August 7 and 8 of this year, Variety Children�s Charity of Northern California partnered with San Jose-based radio station KEZR Mix 106.5 on their 3rd annual Children�s Compassion Fund Radiothon. This intensive, 2-day campaign raised $54,000 for the families of children being treated for cancer and neo natal complications at Lucile Packard Children�s Hospital in Palo Alto, California.
The fund supplies money for basic household and family expenses such as food, electricity, telephone, rent, clothing, toys, gas for trips to and from the hospital and much more — critical funds at a time when many of these families are struggling to make ends meet. In the nearly three years that Variety has operated its Children�s Compassion Fund, the charity has provided nearly $150,000 in direct financial relief to families of sick children who had nowhere else to turn — roughly 30 families a month.
